Preparation of nanocellulose in high yield via chemi-mechanical synergy

Jiajia Wang et al.

Summary: A time-saving and low-cost chemi-mechanical method was proposed to prepare cellulose nanocrystals and cellulose nanofibers with high yield. The diameter and length distribution of the obtained nanocellulose were 16-45 nm and 150-600 nm, respectively. The approach offers a promising strategy for high yield of nanocellulose due to its easy operation and low pollution.

Extraction of cellulose nanocrystals from microcrystalline cellulose for the stabilization of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-enhanced Pickering emulsions

Chaoling Bao et al.

Summary: Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were extracted from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis and hydrogen peroxide oxidation, and combined with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactants to prepare Pickering emulsions. The CNCs exhibited good colloidal properties, and the stability of the emulsions was influenced by CTAB concentration, pH, and ionic strength.

Spherical vs rod-like cellulose nanocrystals from enzymolysis: A comparative study as reinforcing agents on polyvinyl alcohol

Jia-Tong Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, cellulose nanocrystallines (CNCs) with different morphologies were isolated and used to prepare flexible and transparent nanocomposite films with PVA matrix. The effects of rod-shaped cellulose nanocrystallines (RCNCs) and spherical cellulose nanocrystallines (SCNCs) on the properties of the PVA composite films were systematically compared. It was found that SCNCs improved thermal stability, while RCNCs exhibited significantly higher mechanical properties, especially in terms of Young's modulus.
