Summary: Smart hydrogels made of carboxymethyl guar gum and polyvinyl alcohol crosslinked with tetraethyl orthosilicate were treated with nonthermal plasma using nitrogen and ammonia mixture, resulting in improved surface wettability and biofilm eradication against E. coli. The hydrogels also showed controlled release of anticancer drug chrysin and exhibited cytocompatibility along with biodegradability, making them promising for diverse biomedical applications.

Microencapsulation of vitamin D3 by complex coacervation using carboxymethyl tara gum (Caesalpinia spinosa) and gelatin A

Summary: The study optimized the conditions for encapsulating vitamin D3 using complex coacervates of gelatin A and carboxymethyl tara gum, achieving the highest encapsulation efficiency of 80% with spherical particles of 0.25 μm in diameter. The microencapsulation increased the thermal stability of VD3 and prolonged its release during digestion, showcasing a vitamin bioaccessibility of 56% in the small intestine during in vitro simulation.
