Photo-Triggered Shape Reconfiguration in Stretchable Reduced Graphene Oxide-Patterned Azobenzene-Functionalized Liquid Crystalline Polymer Networks

Woongbi Cho et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a novel approach by integrating azobenzene-functionalized liquid crystalline polymer networks with patterned reduced graphene oxide to achieve on-demand shape reconfiguration in response to external stimuli, while exhibiting highly enhanced mechanical and electrical properties. The spatial patterning of reduced graphene oxide allows insulating azo-LCNs to be converted into electrically conducting structures, overcoming the typical trade-off relationship between elastic modulus and deformability. Additionally, an on-demand contactless shape reconfiguration in azo-LCN/rGO by UV irradiation in conjunction with passive mechanical strain is successfully demonstrated.

Improving interfacial properties and thermal conductivity of carbon fiber/ epoxy composites via the solvent-free GO@Fe3O4 nanofluid modified water-based sizing agent

Chunxia Cheng et al.

Summary: A solvent-free GO@Fe3O4 nanofluid hybrid water-based sizing agent was prepared and applied to improve the interface properties and thermal conductivity of carbon fiber reinforced polymers. The GFNF CF/EP composites showed significantly enhanced performance compared to commercial CF/EP composites, with improvements in interfacial properties and thermal conductivity. The enhanced properties were attributed to the uniform adhesion of GFNF to the CF surface, promoting physical-chemical interaction, stress dispersion, and prevention of cracking, as well as the formation of continuous thermal conduction pathways at the interface.
