Graphene oxide exacerbates dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis via ROS/AMPK/p53 signaling to mediate apoptosis

Siliang Liu et al.

Summary: Our study found that graphene oxide (GO) worsened acute colitis in mice induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) and exacerbated inflammation and apoptosis in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) in vitro. This was due to the activation of the ROS/AMPK/p53 pathway. Inhibitors of this pathway effectively prevented GO-induced apoptosis in IECs.
