Ester Oils Prepared from Fully Renewable Resources and Their Lubricant Base Oil Properties

Chenghong Hu et al.

Summary: The work reports the physicochemical and tribological properties of gallate ester oils prepared from renewable resources, showing their superior friction-reducing and antiwear properties compared to commercially available lubricating oil. Additionally, gallate ester oils exhibit better viscosity-temperature characteristics and thermal stability, as well as higher biodegradability than the comparison lubricating oil. The study highlights the key role of physical and/or chemical adsorption film formed by gallate ester molecules in achieving the desired friction-reducing and antiwear properties.
