Facile synthesis of mesoporous silica derived from iron ore tailings for efficient adsorption of methylene blue

Xiaoyu Han et al.

Summary: In this study, iron ore tailings were converted into mesoporous silica material through alkali fusion and acid leaching treatment. The obtained mesoporous silica exhibited abundant porous structures and high specific surface area, showing good adsorption capacity for methylene blue dye in aqueous solution. This research provides a new approach to recycle iron ore tailings into high-value-added mesoporous materials with potential applications in environmental protection.

Investigating Methylene Blue Removal from Aqueous Solution by Cysteine-Functionalized Mesoporous Silica

Abeer M. Beagan

Summary: In this study, mesoporous silica nanoparticles functionalized with cysteine were used for removal of Methylene Blue from aqueous solution. Various factors affecting the adsorption process were investigated, and adsorption isotherms and kinetic models were used to clarify the process. The adsorption capacity of Methylene Blue increased with increasing pH, and both Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model were found to be suitable for the adsorption process.
