Proton Transfer Mechanisms in Bimetallic Hydrogenases

Hulin Tai et al.

Summary: Hydrogenases are metalloenzymes capable of efficiently catalyzing proton reduction and hydrogen oxidation. This Account discusses the use of photochemistry and infrared spectroscopy to study the dynamic hydrogen-bonding changes in [NiFe]- and [FeFe]-hydrogenases, revealing distinct structures and functions in these systems.

Ligand Influence on Structural and Spectroscopic Properties of Beryllium Oxocarboxylates

Magnus R. Buchner et al.

Summary: An aluminum-based adjuvant for vaccines and beryllium ions interact with the same immune receptor. Beryllium oxocarboxylates have a Be4O core, which may be the binding species. A synthetic route to beryllium oxocarboxylates has been developed to investigate the influence of ligands on their molecular and spectroscopic properties. The ligands only slightly perturb the C-C distances, with Be-O bands observed in vibrational spectroscopy.

Comparing Metal-Halide and -Oxygen Adducts in Oxidative C/O-H Activation: AuIII-Cl versus AuIII-OH

Marta Lovisari et al.

Summary: High-valent metal-halides are effective oxidants compared to traditional metal-oxygen adducts, with a greater thermodynamic driving force that allows for superior oxidation of substrates.

Unexpected Deprotonation from a Chemically Inert OH Group Promoted by Metal Ions in Lanthanide-Erythritol Complexes

Xiaoyan Kang et al.

Summary: The single-crystal structures of five lanthanide-erythritol complexes were studied, revealing the importance of metal ions in promoting proton transfer. It was found that the participation of an OH group from an OLMH molecule in mu(2)-bridge formation enhances the metal ions' polarization ability, facilitating deprotonation of the OH group.

Efficient Free-energy Calculation of Proton Transfer by Constrained Density Functional Theory and Geometrically Restrained Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Tatsuya Joutsuka et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for simplifying free energy calculations of proton transfers by using adiabatic MD trajectories and umbrella sampling with geometric coordinates. The calculated free-energy profile is able to reproduce the more accurate results obtained by free-energy perturbation.
