Tuning morphology, defects and functional group types in hard carbon via phosphorus doped for rapid sodium storage

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: Introducing heteroatoms can enhance the ability of carbon materials to store Na+, as demonstrated in this study where N, O, P co-doped hierarchical porous carbon (NOPC) was synthesized. The use of phytic acid and soybean protein as precursors resulted in a structure with coexisting micropores and mesopores, facilitating Na+ transmission and electrolyte penetration. Experimental and theoretical evidence confirmed that N/O/P co-doping can increase Na+ capture capacity and reduce diffusion barriers, making NOPC an effective strategy for sodium storage.
