Pt-modulated Cu/SiO2 catalysts for efficient hydrogenation of CO2-derived ethylene carbonate to methanol and ethylene glycol

Busha Assaba Fayisa et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Pt-modulated Cu/SiO2 catalysts were fabricated and the optimal 0.2Pt-Cu/SiO2 catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic performance with high EC conversion, excellent selectivity to ethylene glycol and methanol, and good stability. The findings suggest that a proper amount of Pt can significantly improve the catalytic activity and stability of Cu-based catalysts in the hydrogenation of carbon-oxygen bonds.

Efficient hydrogenation of CO2-derived ethylene carbonate to methanol and ethylene glycol over Mo-doped Cu/SiO2 catalyst

Youwei Yang et al.

Summary: A series of Mo-doped Cu/SiO2 catalysts were prepared and used for the hydrogenation of ethylene carbonate (EC), with the 0.5 wt% Mo-doped catalyst exhibiting the highest catalytic performance. The addition of Mo can enhance copper dispersion and prevent aggregation, leading to improved activation of EC. The insights gained from this study may help in designing more efficient copper-based catalysts for the hydrogenation of carbon-oxygen bonds.

Continuous hydrogenation of CO2-derived ethylene carbonate to methanol and ethylene glycol at Cu-MoOx interface with a low H-2/ester ratio

Tongyang Song et al.

Summary: In this study, a MoOx-promoted Cu/SiO2 catalyst prepared via a modified hydrothermal method exhibited superior catalytic performance and stability for the hydrogenation of CO2-derived ethylene carbonate to methanol and ethylene glycol. The modification of Cu species by MoOx improved the electronic properties, reduced activation energy, and enhanced Cu+/(Cu-0 + Cu+) ratios, ultimately leading to enhanced selectivity and stability of the catalyst. Additionally, MoOx decoration influenced the strength and quantity of surface acid sites, further improving the catalytic performance.

CO2 hydrogenation to methanol over partially embedded Cu within Zn-Al oxide and the effect of indium

Kristian Stangeland et al.

Summary: Developing effective catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol is crucial for improving green synthesis of fuels and chemicals. Optimizing Cu dispersion enhances catalytic activity, while the nature of the Cu-ZnO interface also impacts catalytic properties. Using hydrotalcite-derived Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts can result in enhanced intrinsic activity and methanol selectivity, with the decrease in interfacial area identified as a deactivation mechanism. The addition of In in Cu/ZnO-based catalysts decreases activity but increases methanol selectivity and stabilizes Cu particles and the Zn-Al mixed oxide phase.
