A novel mechanism of Korean Red Ginseng-mediated anti- inflammatory action via targeting caspase-11 non-canonical inflammasome in macrophages

Ji-Hyun Min et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the anti-inflammatory effects of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) on caspase-11 non-canonical inflammasome activation in macrophages during triggering of inflammatory responses. KRG reduces NO production, suppresses pyroptosis and IL-113 secretion, and inhibits proteolytic cleavage of caspase-11 and gasdermin D. In addition, KRG ameliorates LPS-mediated lethal septic shock in mice.

The Nrf2 in the pathophysiology of the intestine: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic implications for inflammatory bowel diseases

Marta Piotrowska et al.

Summary: Nrf2 is a stress-responsive transcription factor that plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. When triggered by oxidative or electrophilic stress, Keapl dissociates from Nrf2, allowing Nrf2 to translocate to the nucleus and induce the expression of anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory genes. This axis is a promising candidate for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and their complications.

An update on the regulatory mechanisms of NLRP3 inflammasome activation

Seungwha Paik et al.

Summary: This review article discusses the molecular details of NLRP3 inflammasome activation, focusing on priming/licensing and assembly steps, as well as protein-protein interactions, posttranslational modifications, and spatiotemporal regulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome machinery. Multiple positive and/or negative regulatory pathways providing upstream signals for NLRP3 inflammasome complex assembly are also summarized, with the ultimate goal of developing methods for the prevention and treatment of NLRP3 inflammasome-related diseases.

Hypericum ascyron L. extract reduces particulate matter-induced airway inflammation in mice

Yuan Yee Lee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that HAE is effective in preventing airway inflammation, reducing nitric oxide secretion, pro-inflammatory cytokine expression, immune cell infiltration, and alleviating inflammatory responses in both in vitro and in vivo models.
