Condition-Based Maintenance for Traction Power Supply Equipment Based on Partially Observable Markov Decision Process

Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a maintenance model for traction power supply equipment (TPSE) based on partially observable Markov decision process. The degradation process of TPSE is described using a four-state Markov process, and the model considers imperfect maintenance. Validation using actual fault record data shows that the model can provide guidance on maintenance decision-making under uncertainty, optimizing both TPSE reliability and operational cost.

Modeling multivariate degradation processes with time-variant covariates and imperfect maintenance effects

Xiaolin Wang et al.

Summary: This article proposes two types of degradation models to describe multivariate degrading systems, reflecting the influences of covariates and maintenance by directly impacting degradation rates/paths or modifying the time scales governing the degradation processes. Two particular imperfect maintenance models are presented in each model, which differ in the extent of reduction in degradation level or virtual age, and the two degradation models are compared in certain special cases.

Group maintenance optimization of subsea Xmas trees with stochastic dependency

Dongming Fan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a group maintenance optimization approach for subsea Xmas trees, aiming to reduce maintenance costs and improve efficiency by combining maintenance activities. By introducing reduction factors and considering stochastic dependency, the optimal component-level PM intervals can be obtained, leading to a more reliable maintenance plan. Utilizing the collaborative particle swarm optimization algorithm, the cost of an optimal group maintenance plan can be minimized while maintaining availability, as illustrated by a case study on a Horizon Xmas tree with a 14-component system.

Generalized condition-based maintenance optimization for multi-component systems considering stochastic dependency and imperfect maintenance

Jun Xu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the optimal CBM policy for a K-out-of-N: G system under periodic inspection, with focus on economic dependency, stochastic dependency, and imperfect maintenance to minimize expected long-run discounted cost. Utilizing Markov decision process framework, the study discretizes state space and employs value iteration algorithm with Monte Carlo simulation for optimization. Numerical studies on a 1-out-of-2: G system examine impacts of degradation processes, copula functions, and imperfect maintenance, providing insights for multi-component system maintenance and conducting sensitivity analysis on cost-related parameters.

Deep reinforcement learning driven inspection and maintenance planning under incomplete information and constraints

C. P. Andriotis et al.

Summary: Determining inspection and maintenance policies to minimize long-term risks and costs in deteriorating engineering environments is a complex optimization problem. Major computational challenges include the curse of dimensionality, curse of history, presence of state uncertainties, and presence of constraints. These challenges are addressed through a joint framework of constrained Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDP) and multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL).

A finite-horizon condition-based maintenance policy for a two-unit system with dependent degradation processes

Bin Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a condition-based maintenance model for analyzing systems with two heterogeneous components. It evaluates maintenance cost within a finite planning horizon and calculates the expected cost through dynamic programming, resulting in optimal maintenance strategies for the components. The numerical example shows how economic and degradation dependencies influence the maintenance policy.
