Measurements of ultra-high energy lead ions using silicon and diamond detectors

Carlo Cazzaniga et al.

Summary: At the SPS experimental North Area at CERN, a silicon detector and a diamond detector are utilized for diagnostics of ultra-high energy lead ion beams. Through deposited energy and pulse shape analysis, these detectors demonstrate good beam monitoring performances, effectively discriminating the main lead ion beam component from contamination of light and heavy fragments.

Assessment of Proton Direct Ionization for the Radiation Hardness Assurance of Deep Submicron SRAMs Used in Space Applications

Summary: The study found that low-energy proton PDI has a significant impact on the accuracy of calculating upset rates of memory devices in space applications. Different prediction methods were compared, showing PDI can contribute up to 90% of the total UR, with peaks of 99%, challenging the current approach of applying a safety margin. This suggests that characterizing the low-energy proton spectrum is more convenient than using a general safety margin.
