A Hybrid Radio-Optical Wireless System With Efficient Sub-Centimeter Localization for Full-Coverage Indoor Services

Jiun-Yu Sung et al.

Summary: Wireless transmission capacity demands are continuously growing and IR-OWC is seen as a promising solution for high-speed indoor applications. However, powerful localization functions in IR-OWC cells can be economically burdensome, leading to the proposal of a hybrid radio-optical wireless system to balance capacity, coverage, and cost. This system offers high speed IR-OWC services at specific hotspots and fills spatial gaps with Wi-Fi signals.
