Spectroscopic Studies of Synthetic and Natural Saponites: A Review

J. Theo Kloprogge et al.

Summary: Saponite is a trioctahedral 2:1 smectite with a complex composition, and its synthesis and applications rely on a deep understanding of its structure. This review focuses on spectroscopic methods, particularly discussing Infrared and Raman spectra, as well as thermal changes and crystallization models. Various spectroscopic techniques, including Infrared emission spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, are used to study the chemical composition and local environments of saponite.
