Genetic Diversity, Complicated Recombination, and Deteriorating Drug Resistance Among HIV-1-Infected Individuals in Wuhan, China

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study identified CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC as the main genotypes among HIV-1 infected individuals in Wuhan, China, with a transmitted drug resistance rate of approximately 24% against non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.

Impact of HIV-1 CRF55_01B infection on the evolution of CD4 count and plasma HIV RNA load in men who have sex with men prior to antiretroviral therapy

Lan Wei et al.

Summary: CRF55_01B has become the third predominant strain in Shenzhen, China. Infected individuals have lower CD4 counts and higher plasma HIV RNA loads compared to other subtypes, indicating a potentially longer asymptomatic phase and higher risk of HIV transmission.

The prevalence of CRF55_01B among HIV-1 strain and its connection with traffic development in China

Mengze Gan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transmission characteristics of the relatively young HIV strain CRF55_01B in China, revealing its exponential increase from 2005 to 2009 and rapid spread to other provinces after 2010, especially in Guangdong, Hunan, and Beijing. The strain originated in Shenzhen and was initially transmitted among men who have sex with men (MSM), but later spread to heterosexuals. The rapid spread of CRF55_01B was also found to be associated with the development of the Beijing-Guangzhou and Beijing-Kowloon railways. Early detection through molecular monitoring of MSM transmission could help control the epidemic and prevent further spread in China.
