Epidemiology of uveitis in Japan: a 2016 retrospective nationwide survey

Koh-Hei Sonoda et al.

Summary: The epidemiology of uveitis in Japan was investigated through a nationwide survey, revealing that new patients with uveitis accounted for 3.2% of new patients with ophthalmic diseases in 2016. Sarcoidosis, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, and herpetic iritis were the most frequent uveitis entities, with an increasing rate of herpetic iritis compared to previous surveys in 2009. Regular nationwide epidemiologic surveys are deemed valuable for monitoring changes over time.
