A new generation Griggs apparatus with active acoustic monitoring

Arefeh Moarefvand et al.

Summary: High pressure and temperature experiments are essential for understanding geological processes at deep earth conditions. The new generation Griggs-type apparatus allows deformation experiments to be conducted at P-T conditions up to 5 GPa and 1000 degrees C, with an innovative active acoustic monitoring pulse-transmission technique. This new set-up opens up important perspectives for studying the complex couplings between mineral reactions and deformation under lithospheric stress and temperature conditions.
