Evaluation Method of Surface Subsidence Degree for Underground Coal Gasification without Shaft

Huaizhan Li et al.

Summary: Underground coal gasification is a green mining technology that has less interference to the mining area environment. However, it can also cause surface subsidence. This study proposes a process for assessing the degree of surface subsidence in underground coal gasification and introduces a new prediction method based on continuum-stochastic medium theory.

Study on a Damage Model and Uniaxial Compression Simulation Method of Frozen-Thawed Rock

Qiang Feng et al.

Summary: The study found that with an increasing number of freeze-thaw cycles, the elastic modulus, peak strength and wave velocity of yellow sandstones gradually decrease, while the peak strain and porosity increase. An energy evolution law with different freeze-thaw cycles was analyzed, a freeze-thaw damage model was established, and a functional relationship between mesoscopic parameters and freeze-thaw cycles was formulated.

Effect of liquid nitrogen freeze-thaw cycle on fracture toughness and release rate of saturated sandstone

Peng Hou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of LN2 freeze-thaw cycles on the fracture toughness and energy-release rate of saturated sandstone. The experimental results show that LN2 freeze-thaw cycles can promote the generation of microcracks inside the sandstone, leading to an increase in surface roughness of cracks post-loading. As the freeze-thaw cycle times increase, both fracture toughness and energy-release rate gradually decrease.

Engineering properties of four different rocks after heat treatment

Savani Vidana Pathiranagei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of high temperature on engineering properties of rocks, examining the changes in properties such as porosity and strength for sandstone, basalt, and argillite heated to various temperatures. The research highlights the importance of mineral composition in thermal behavior and the significant differences in effects on different rock types at both threshold and critical temperatures. The findings suggest using a combination of threshold and critical temperature parameters for more accurate estimations of temperature ranges for significant changes in rocks.

A FRACTAL PERSPECTIVE ON FRACTURE INITIATION AND PROPAGATION OF RESERVOIR ROCKS UNDER WATER AND NITROGEN FRACTURING

Xin Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fractal characteristics of crack propagation in hydraulic fracturing and the impact of fractal dimension of induced fractures on rock breakdown pressure. The results showed that N-2 fracturing can lower the rock breakdown pressure and induce more tortuous macro-fractures. The study suggests that crack fractal dimension is an important factor that should be considered in designing fracturing operations.

Experimental Study on Relative Permeability Characteristics for CO2 in Sandstone under High Temperature and Overburden Pressure

Ke Ding et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that permeability of sandstone decreases with stress, with lower stress leading to higher sensitivity to permeability variation. Permeability of sandstone first decreases and then increases with temperature, attributed to the coupling of thermal expansion, CO2 desorption, and water evaporation. A quadratic function mathematical model was constructed with a fitting degree of 98.2%, providing necessary data support for subsequent numerical calculation and practical engineering application.
