A New Model for the Genesis of Carboniferous Mn Ores, Longtou Deposit, South China Block

Fangge Chen et al.

Summary: The study of the Luzhai and Baping formations in Guangxi Province, China provides valuable insights into the origin of carbonate-hosted Mn deposits. The research reveals that Mn carbonates were formed in anoxic, Mn-rich water environments, challenging previous interpretations of their formation in oxic conditions. This study has significant implications for resource exploration of carbonate-hosted Mn deposits.

DIRECT Re-Os DATING OF MANGANESE CARBONATE ORES AND IMPLICATIONS FOR THE FORMATION OF THE ORTOKARNASH MANGANESE DEPOSIT, NORTHWEST CHINA

Wen-Jun Li et al.

Summary: This study presents the first Re-Os systematics of Mn carbonate ores from the Ortokarnash Mn deposit in Xinjiang, China, providing precise age constraints and insights into the mineralizing processes. The enrichment of hydrogenous Re and Os in the Mn carbonate ores is likely related to variable redox environments during mineralization, and an increased riverine flux may have contributed to Mn mineralization.

Metallogenic mechanism of large manganese deposits from Permian manganese ore belt in western South China Block: New mineralogical and geochemical evidence

Hai Xu et al.

Summary: The Changgou Mn deposit in the Zunyi orefield, Guizhou, SW China, exhibits complex mineral compositions and structures, with enriched chalcophile and siderophile elements, high rare earth and yttrium contents, and distinct Sr isotope ratios. The ore-forming fluids are likely related to hydrothermal activities from Emeishan Large Igneous Province volcanism, and sedimentary conditions evolved from euxinic-anoxic to oxic environments. Tectono-hydrothermal activities and redox changes induced by the ELIP volcanism played a crucial role in the manganese mineralization.

Insights into hydrothermal controls and processes leading to the formation of the Late Ediacaran Gaoyan stratiform manganese-carbonate deposit, Southwest China

Zhaofu Gao et al.

Summary: The Mn-carbonate ore at the Gaoyan deposit is formed by a combination of depositional environment and hydrothermal processes, as evidenced by geochemical characteristics such as high Mn/Fe ratios and high Ba content. The mixing of radiogenic Sr from hydrothermal sources and the occurrence of euxinic conditions with pyrite and rhodochrosite indicate the influence of hydrothermal contribution in the formation of sedimentary Mn mineralization. The slightly light carbon isotope compositions of the manganese carbonate ores suggest a limited carbon source from oxidation of organic material.

Evolution of the structure and impact of Earth's biosphere

Noah J. Planavsky et al.

Summary: This review examines the evolving structure of Earth's biosphere, the impact of major events on geochemical cycles, and the potential issues with commonly held viewpoints. It argues for new lines of biogeochemical work to explore and suggests that the rise of animals or algae may not have been the first-order controls of the marine biological carbon pump.
