TLR4 and CD14 trafficking and its influence on LPS-induced pro-inflammatory signaling

Anna Ciesielska et al.

Summary: This article discusses the role of TLR4 in promoting inflammatory responses, including internalization and intracellular trafficking of exogenous endotoxin and bacteria. The authors emphasize the significant impact of internalization rate and endo-lysosomal compartment transport rate on inflammatory responses.

Fundamental insights into the interaction between telomerase/TERT and intracellular signaling pathways

Somayyeh Ghareghomi et al.

Summary: Telomerase activity is crucial for cancer cells, providing unrestricted proliferation and cellular immortality by maintaining telomeres. Recent studies have shown the interaction of telomerase with various intracellular signaling pathways, playing roles in inflammation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, tumor invasion and metastasis. The understanding of TERT function and interactions in tumor cells may lead to novel therapeutic approaches.

Introgressive Hybridization and Hypoxia Adaptation in High-Altitude Vertebrates

Jay F. Storz et al.

Summary: In natural populations of high-altitude vertebrates, introgressive hybridization may serve as an important source of adaptive genetic variation. Studies have shown evidence of positive selection on introgressed allelic variants, involving long-term highland species as donors and more recently arrived colonizing species as recipients. Case studies involving the HIF transcription factor EPAS1 in high-altitude humans and canids have provided insights into complex histories of ancient introgression. Directed mutagenesis experiments have successfully identified causative amino acid mutations in introgressed hemoglobin variants, shedding light on the functional properties of selectively introgressed alleles.
