The Risk of Extraintestinal Cancer in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Population-based Cohort Studies

Bobby Lo et al.

Summary: Patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of developing extraintestinal cancers, both overall and at specific sites, even when receiving immunosuppressive treatment. Additional studies with longer follow-up evaluation are needed to more accurately assess the true risk of extraintestinal cancers in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Prevalence of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Austin Lin et al.

Summary: The prevalence of NAFLD among IBD patients is 32%, significantly higher than in the general population. Risk factors for NAFLD in IBD patients include age, BMI, diabetes, IBD duration, and prior history of bowel resection. Future studies are necessary to clarify these risk factors and determine screening recommendations.

A meta-analysis of anal cancer incidence by risk group: Toward a unified anal cancer risk scale

Gary M. Clifford et al.

Summary: Certain population groups such as PLHIV, MSM, SOTRs, and patients with autoimmune diseases have higher anal cancer risks. The incidence rates vary significantly among different groups, with HIV-positive MSM showing the highest rates. Prioritizing anal cancer prevention and research in these high-risk groups is crucial.

Summary: There is a higher incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) and small bowel cancer (SBC) in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). Patients with anorectal cancer have a shorter survival prognosis, with more reports coming from Asia.

Inflammatory bowel disease and risk of gastric, small bowel and colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis of 26 observational studies

Qianyi Wan et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis assessed the associations between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the risk of gastric, small bowel, and colorectal cancer. The results showed that IBD is mainly associated with an increased risk of cancers in the lower gastrointestinal tract, including small bowel cancer and colorectal cancer. More observational studies are needed in the future to explore the association between IBD and gastric cancer, especially in Asian populations.

Summary: This study found that inflammatory bowel disease was not significantly associated with the risk of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and male genital cancer. However, patients with Crohn's disease appeared to have a higher risk of prostate cancer and bladder cancer, while patients with ulcerative colitis in East Asian countries showed a significantly increased risk of prostate cancer.

Inflammatory bowel disease and risk of urinary cancers: a systematic review and pooled analysis of population-based studies

Summary: This study elucidates the increased risk of renal cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, particularly in those with Crohn's disease. Furthermore, it highlights the significantly increased risk of prostate cancer in IBD patients in Asian countries, especially in those with ulcerative colitis. Further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms of urologic cancers associated with IBD and the variations in risk between Eastern and Western countries.
