Effect of turbulence intensity on flame propagation and extinction limits of methane/coal dust explosions

Haipeng Jiang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the turbulence intensity has a significant impact on flame propagation velocity and extinction limits of methane/coal dust explosions. Increase in turbulence intensity led to accelerated flame propagation velocity and higher extinction limits of CH4/coal flames.

Effect of the initial oxidized status of coal dust on the deflagration severities and flame behaviors of pulverized coal explosion in various methane-air atmospheres

Haitao Li et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the influence of pre-oxidized coal dust on the severity of deflagration and flame behaviors in methane-pulverized coal mixtures. The results show that pre-oxidation of coal dust increases the severity of explosion and prolongs the burning time of the mixtures. It also affects the flame morphology and brightness. Furthermore, pre-oxidized coal dust leads to increased complexity in the structure of solid residues.

Haitao Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the macromorphological features and formation mechanisms of post-explosion particulate residues from the hybrid explosion of methane/coal dust mixtures. Through experiments and qualitative analysis, the study revealed the morphological characteristics and formation rules of the particulate residues, as well as the correlation between explosion severity and particle residue features.

Numerical study of premixed flame dynamics in a closed tube: Effect of wall boundary condition

Xiaoxi Li et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations were conducted to study the dynamics of premixed flames propagating in a closed tube. The influence of different wall boundary conditions on flame dynamics was explored, showing significant effects on pressure wave generation and flame behavior. Different boundary conditions may lead to variations in flame shape evolution and interactions with pressure waves.

Experimental study on the explosion behaviors of premixed syngas-air mixtures in ducts

Weiguo Cao et al.

Summary: The explosion characteristics of premixed syngas-air mixtures in ducts were studied experimentally. The ratio of L/H and H-2/CO had significant effects on the explosion flame behaviors. Venting pressure affected overpressure dynamics, which increased with L/H ratio and H-2/CO ratio.

Experimental investigation of combustion modes and transition mechanism in confined combustion chamber

Jianfu Zhao et al.

Summary: The present study experimentally investigated different combustion modes and the transition mechanism in a confined combustion chamber using a H2-O2-N2 mixture with variable oxygen concentration as test fuel. It was found that the combustion mode transition was jointly influenced by the ignition delay time and flame propagation velocity. Increasing oxygen concentration led to a transition from normal combustion to end-wall detonation, and the flame propagation velocity played a crucial role in this transition.

Premixed CO/air combustion in a closed duct with inhibition

Summary: Syngas is a promising alternative energy carrier with low pollutant emissions. Experimental results showed that inhibitors had a significant negative impact on flame and pressure dynamics, with a competitive effect between buoyancy and flame instabilities. The study also revealed the thermal and kinetic effects of CO2 on premixed CO/air combustion for a comprehensive view of inhibiting mechanism.
