Low-temperature oxidation of heavy crude oil characterized by TG, DSC, GC-MS, and negative ion ESI FT-ICR MS

Shuai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study provides an in-depth analysis of low-temperature oxidation (LTO) of crude oil and its effects on the composition of oils. The research found that under low-temperature conditions, the condensation of aromatic compounds and aromatization and condensation of other compounds in crude oil were intensified. Additionally, the oxidation reactions caused changes in the acidic components of the oxidized oils, with an increase in tricyclic naphthenic acids and a decrease in chain saturated aliphatic acids.

Properties, combustion behavior, and kinetic triplets of coke produced by low-temperature oxidation and pyrolysis: Implications for heavy oil in-situ combustion

Shuai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the combustion of oxidized and pyrolyzed cokes, finding that the former can combust at lower temperatures due to differences in molecular polarity and microstructure. By determining the kinetic triplets of coke combustion, along with the most appropriate reaction models for each type of coke, the research contributed to building numerical models for simulating the in-situ combustion process.
