Molecular Dynamics Study on Performance of Olefin Sulfonate at the Decane-Water Interface: Effect of Molecular Architecture

Jihui Jia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that internal olefin surfactants have superior interfacial performance compared to alpha olefin surfactants, with greater stability and larger coverage at the oil-water interface. The larger distance between headgroups of internal olefin surfactants promotes the formation of hydrogen bonds with water molecules, enhancing their interaction at the interface. The twin-tailed structure of internal olefin surfactants leads to a more favorable effective alkyl tail length, making them more miscible with the oil phase and thereby more efficient in separating water and oil phases.

Effect of molecular structure on synergism in mixed zwitterionic/anionic surfactant system: An experimental and simulation study

Long Su et al.

Summary: The study investigated the oil/water interfacial properties of different zwitterionic surfactant combined with an anionic surfactant. Results showed that the synergistic effect between surfactants is greatly affected by the aromatic cation part of the zwitterionic surfactants. The adsorption mechanisms and compactness of the surfactant monolayer at the oil/water interface vary in different systems, influencing the oil/water interfacial tension.

Interfacial properties and salt tolerance of carboxylated nonylphenol ethoxylate surfactants

Hong-ze Gang et al.

Summary: Ionic alkoxy-based surfactants, specifically carboxylated nonylphenol ethoxylate surfactants, were studied in terms of their interfacial activity and salt tolerance. The results showed that the surfactant with more ethoxy units exhibited higher interfacial activity and salt tolerance, highlighting the importance of surfactant structure in influencing these properties.

Molecular Dynamics Study on the Effects of Metal Cations on Microscale Interfacial Properties of Oil-Water-Surfactant System

Lijun Sun et al.

Summary: The addition of metal cations affects the interfacial properties of oil-water-surfactant flooding systems by decreasing interfacial thickness and enhancing interaction between the polar head group of the surfactant and water molecules. This leads to increased stability of the system and more ordered surfactant molecules at the interface. Enhanced interaction between water molecules and surfactant head groups due to certain metal cations is the main driving factor for the change in interfacial properties, particularly the orientation of surfactants.
