Stepwise pyrolysis treatment as an efficient strategy to enhance the stability performance of Fe-NX/C electrocatalyst towards oxygen reduction reaction and proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Ximing Qu et al.

Summary: A rational stepwise pyrolysis strategy was proposed for stabilizing isolated Fe-N-X sites on highly graphitized N-doped carbon supports. The high graphitization degree of the NC support derived from a harsh thermal treatment at 1100 degrees Celsius significantly enhanced the stability of the Fe-N-X/C catalyst, enabling strong antioxidant ability in both ORR and fuel cell tests.

Activity origin and alkalinity effect of electrocatalytic biomass oxidation on nickel nitride

Bo Zhou et al.

Summary: Electro-oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMFOR) on nickel nitride (Ni3N) is a promising green approach to convert biomass into value-added chemicals. The research elucidates an electrocatalytic mechanism involving the generation of active species (Ni2+delta N(OH)(ads)) and a two-step reaction process for HMFOR on Ni3N. The study highlights the favorable alkalinity of the electrolyte for the HMFOR process, enhancing the electrocatalytic performance.

Highly dispersed Co/N-rich carbon nanosheets for the oxidative esterification of biomass-derived alcohols: Insights into the catalytic performance and mechanism

Yunchao Feng et al.

Summary: The development of active and environmentally friendly non-noble nano-catalysts for transforming biomass-derived platform into value chemicals is highly desired. A low-cost and sustainable cobalt/nitrogen-doped carbon catalyst has been reported to exhibit satisfying activity for the oxidative esterification of various alcohols, with excellent stability and recyclability. The Co/Co-N group synergistically promotes electron transfer, facilitates O-2 adsorption and activation, and reduces energy barrier for oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes, contributing to the overall activity of oxidative esterification.

Role of lattice oxygen in methane activation on Ni-phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 core-shell catalyst for methane dry reforming: Zr doping effect, mechanism, and kinetic study

Sonali Das et al.

Summary: Sandwich structured core-shell Ni-Phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 catalysts with optimal Zr loading in the Ce1-xZrxO2 shell are found to greatly enhance the intrinsic activity for DRM due to increased lattice oxygen mobility of the ceria-zirconia shell and stronger metal-support interaction with Ni. Involvement of lattice oxygen in methane activation and dissociation contributes to the higher DRM activity of the Zr-doped catalyst with maximum oxygen storage capacity, as inferred from rigorous kinetic and mechanism studies.
