Impact of methane energy fraction on emissions, performance and cyclic variability in low-load dual fuel combustion at early injection timings

Prabhat R. Jha et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of methane substitution on early injection dual fuel combustion in a compression ignition engine at low loads. It is found that both minimum and maximum methane energy fractions are limited by different factors, and increasing methane energy fraction can significantly reduce engine-out NOx emissions while increasing engine-out unburned hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions at low load conditions.

Large eddy simulation of diesel spray-assisted dual-fuel ignition: A comparative study on two n-dodecane mechanisms at different ambient temperatures

Jeevananthan Kannan et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the general understanding of dual-fuel ignition phenomenon through zero-dimensional homogeneous reactor studies and three-dimensional large eddy simulation. It assesses the effect of two different chemical mechanisms on ignition characteristics and compares heat release modes in dual-fuel combustion at different ambient temperatures. The results indicate differences in ignition timing with the two mechanisms and variations in heat release patterns under different conditions.

Influence of pilot-fuel mixing on the spatio-temporal progression of two-stage autoignition of diesel-sprays in low-reactivity ambient fuel-air mixture

Summary: The spatial and temporal locations of autoignition in direct-injection compression-ignition engines depend on various factors, and dual-fuel systems can provide insights into fuel chemistry and physical effects. The addition of NG prolongs ignition delay and increases combustion duration, and zero-dimensional chemical-kinetics simulations can further enhance understanding of combustion processes.
