Spray Behaviors and Gasoline Direct Injection Engine Performance Using Ultrahigh Injection Pressures up to 1500 Bar

Akichika Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: High fuel injection pressure systems for Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines are widely used in passenger car engines to reduce emissions. This article presents comprehensive study data on the effects of high-pressure injection on spray behavior, engine performance, and emissions. The results show that high-pressure sprays have numerous benefits, including reduced particulate emissions and increased fuel consumption efficiency.

Particle emissions measurements on CNG vehicles focusing on Sub-23nm

Zisimos Toumasatos et al.

Summary: The study found that passenger cars operating on compressed natural gas (CNG) had lower solid particle number emissions compared to gasoline vehicles when the particle size threshold was 23 nm, but similar emissions when the threshold was lowered to 10 nm or 2.5 nm. Specifically, the Euro 6 b vehicle exceeded the Euro 6 emission standard for 2.5 nm particles, while emissions for 23 nm particles were significantly lower than the limits for CNG and gasoline. Particle size distributions revealed particles below the regulated 23 nm limit, indicating the current threshold may be insufficient for particle emission testing.

Development and application of a method for characterizing mixture formation in a port-injection natural gas engine

Mirko Baratta et al.

Summary: This study aims to provide a comprehensive characterization of gas fuel injection and mixing process for port injection of natural gas as an alternative fuel. The research found that the intuitive correlation between injection timing and mixture homogeneity is complicated by two mechanisms peculiar to gas port injection, which may prove combustion-significant depending on specific engine design and operating point.

Large-eddy simulation of methane direct injection using the full injector geometry

M. R. Yosri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mixing process of methane injected into a Constant Volume Chamber using Large-Eddy Simulation (LES), and validates the simulation results against experimental trends. The study observes three main regions in the external flow: a recirculation zone, a stagnation zone, and a far-mixing zone. By modeling the full internal geometry of the injector, pressure losses can be determined for accurate prediction of the external flow.
