In vitro and in vivo study of the enhancement of carotenoid bioavailability in vegetables using excipient nanoemulsions: Impact of lipid content

Kangfei Yao et al.

Summary: Increasing the lipid content of excipient nanoemulsions enhances the bioavailability and bioaccessibility of carotenoids from spinach. Additionally, the polarity of carotenoids plays a role in their bioavailability, with lutein having significantly higher bioavailability than beta-carotene. It is important to consider lipid content when formulating reduced-fat emulsion-based foods to improve the oral bioavailability of hydrophobic nutraceuticals.

Human Milk sn-2 Palmitate Triglyceride Rich in Linoleic Acid Had Lower Digestibility but Higher Absorptivity Compared with the sn-2 Palmitate Triglyceride Rich in Oleic Acid in Vitro

Niu Zhang et al.

Summary: The digestion and absorption of different structural lipids in human milk vary, with the OPO group showing the highest digestibility. In Caco-2 cells, the synthesis and transport of triglycerides were significantly higher in the M1 group compared to the other groups.

Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to reveal chicken meat improvements by medium-chain monoglycerides supplementation: Taste, fresh meat quality, and composition

Tao Liu et al.

Summary: This study revealed that supplementation of medium-chain monoglycerides (MG) improved the taste and quality of chicken meat by increasing umami components in chicken broth and enhancing antioxidant activity and amino acid content in muscle. The metabolome analysis also showed improvements in meat quality, composition, and taste with the addition of MG.

Butyrate in Energy Metabolism: There Is Still More to Learn

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: Butyrate, as a main product of gut microbial fermentation, plays an important role in regulating whole body energy homeostasis. Research has shown that butyrate has multiple effects on metabolic health, including thermogenesis, lipid and glucose metabolism, appetite, inflammation, and influence on gut microbiota. Through pathways such as G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) and acting as a histone deacetylase inhibitor, butyrate also impacts cellular systems.

Fabrication and characterization of fast dissolving glycerol monolaurate microemulsion encapsulated gelatin nanofibers with antimicrobial activity

Xinyan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of GML microemulsions did not affect electrospinnability but increased the diameter of nanofibers. Both gelatin and GML microemulsions exhibited shear-thinning behavior. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed hydrogen bonding between gelatin and GML. Thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction indicated an amorphous structure in gelatin/GML nanofibers.

Digestive behavior of unemulsified triglycerides with different chain lengths: In vitro dynamic and static simulated digestion models

Wangxin Liu et al.

Summary: This study compared the digestion behaviors of unemulsified GTB, GTD, and GTP in dynamic and static simulation digestion models. The results showed that the digestibility sequence was GTB > GTD > GTP, with the dynamic model showing more pronounced triglyceride hydrolysis.

A bridge for short-chain fatty acids to affect inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease positively: by changing gut barrier

Wangxin Liu et al.

Summary: Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) may have positive effects on inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and are related to gut microbiota and gut barrier health. SCFAs seem to maintain gut barrier by promoting intestinal epithelial cells growth, strengthening intestinal tight connection, and regulating gut microbiota and immune cells activities.
