Induced production of a new polyketide in Penicillium sp. HS-11 by chemical epigenetic manipulation

You-Min Ying et al.

Summary: Chemical investigation of the culture broth of the plant endophyte Penicillium sp. HS-11 in a modified Martin's medium supplemented with subemylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) led to the discovery and identification of two induced products, including a new compound 4-epipenicillone B. Detailed spectroscopic and quantum chemistry analyses were conducted to elucidate the structure of 4-epipenicillone B, enriching the diversity of fungal natural products. The cytotoxic activity of 4-epipenicillone B was also evaluated in this study.

Serine-glycine-betaine, a novel dipeptide from an endophyte Macrophomina phaseolina: isolation, bioactivity and biosynthesis

G. Singh et al.

Summary: This study isolated a novel dipeptide, serine-glycine-betaine, from the endophyte Macrophomina phaseolina associated with Brugmansia aurea L., which exhibited activity against human cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. Genomic analysis revealed the potential biosynthesis pathway of serine-glycine-betaine. The findings suggest dipeptides like serine-glycine-betaine and tyrosine-betaine may be specific to fungal genera and could be used for diagnostic purposes.
