Phyllanacidins A-C, three new cleistanthane diterpenoids from Phyllanthus acidus and their cytotoxicities

Hui-Chun Geng et al.

Summary: Phytochemical investigation of nonpolar extracts of P. acidus leaves led to the discovery of three new cleistanthane diterpenoids, with compounds 2 and 3 being the first examples of 17-nor cleistanthane diterpenoids. These compounds showed moderate cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 16.11 to 30.82 μM.

New cytotoxic dichapetalins in the leaves of Phyllanthus acidus: Identification, quantitative analysis, and preliminary toxicity assessment

Hui-Chun Geng et al.

Summary: The leaves of Phyllanthus acidus exhibit significant cytotoxic effects, with four new dichapetalins isolated showing moderate toxicity against normal cells and human cancer cell lines. Analytical HPLC revealed a high content of dichapetalins in the leaves, indicating potential adverse health effects if consumed in large quantities. However, the dichapetalins also show promise as anti-cancer agents for new drug discovery.
