The role of cellular senescence in female reproductive aging and the potential for senotherapeutic interventions

Laura Secomandi et al.

Summary: Advanced maternal age can lead to decreased oocyte quantity and quality, as well as dysfunctions in the uterus and placenta, resulting in infertility, pregnancy complications, and birth defects in offspring. Research on cellular senescence as a mechanism of female reproductive aging is important for developing therapeutic measures. Several new strategies and drugs targeting senescent cells have emerged, showing promising results for future interventions.
