Numerical study on the minimum ignition energy of a methane-air mixture

Haitao Lu et al.

Summary: A semi-detailed mechanism was used to calculate the minimum ignition energy (MIE) of methane-air mixtures using ANSYS Fluent software in this paper. The effects of isothermal and adiabatic wall conditions, equivalence ratio, and electrode wall temperature on the MIE were numerically investigated, showing significant differences in MIE predictions. The numerical results were considered to be considerably more accurate for different equivalence ratios compared to previous studies.

Influencing factors on the vibrational and rotational temperatures in the spark discharge channel

Shuai Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of plasma on ignition by analyzing the vibrational and rotational temperatures based on N-2 second positive molecular emission spectra under different discharge powers, ambient pressures, gas compositions, and spark plug gap sizes. Results showed that increased discharge power leads to higher vibrational and rotational temperatures, while higher pressure initially decreases vibrational temperature but subsequently increases it. Gas composition and gap size also significantly affect the temperatures. The spatial distribution of rotational temperature in the spark gap showed the highest temperatures near the center.

Quantitative 1-D LIBS measurements of fuel concentration in natural gas jets at high ambient pressure

Zhifei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study developed a 1-D measurement approach based on laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to quantitatively measure fuel concentration in high-pressure gas jets. The research investigated the effects of laser energy and ambient pressure on plasma dynamics to explore the feasibility of 1-D LIBS in concentration measurements at high ambient pressure. A calibration strategy was developed to quantify fuel concentration distributions, and measurement uncertainties were evaluated, including both systematic and random errors.
