Engineering Anisotropic Meniscus: Zonal Functionality and Spatiotemporal Drug Delivery

Anna Abbadessa et al.

Summary: The degeneration of human meniscus often leads to surgeries and increased risk of knee osteoarthritis, with no satisfactory treatment currently available. Research on drug delivery and tissue engineering strategies for meniscus regeneration take into account the tissue's zonal differences and structures. A combination of advanced drug delivery and zonal tissue engineering strategies is expected to play a key role in future trends of meniscus regeneration.
