Control of Particle Size in the Self-Assembly of Amphiphilic Statistical Copolymers

Thomas J. Neal et al.

Summary: A series of amphiphilic statistical copolymers were synthesized with varying hydrophilic and hydrophobic components, which self-assembled into well-defined spherical nanoparticles in aqueous solution. The PSC model was used to describe the relationship between copolymer composition and nanoparticle size, while contrast variation small-angle neutron scattering revealed partial phase separation within the nanoparticles. This study demonstrates the potential for using such statistical copolymers to control and predict nanoparticle size in various industrial applications.

3D printed silk-gelatin hydrogel scaffold with different porous structure and cell seeding strategy for cartilage regeneration

Qingtao Li et al.

Summary: Hydrogel scaffolds with macro-pores were fabricated through 3D printing using horseradish peroxidase-mediated crosslinking of silk fibroin and tyramine-substituted gelatin. The hydrogel showed excellent structural stability, mechanical properties, and adjustable degradation rate, making it suitable for cartilage reconstruction. Furthermore, combining the hydrogel with stem cell aggregates promoted articular cartilage regeneration, showing great potential for cartilage tissue repair and regeneration.

Poly(ester-co-glycidyl methacrylate) for digital light processing in biomedical applications

Nuttapol Risangud et al.

Summary: This study introduced a facile method of synthesizing methacrylate-containing polyesters and controlled the molecular weight of copolymers by adjusting the ratio of different beginning monomers. The research evaluated the effects of copolymer structures on the properties of resins formulated with or without hydroxyapatite, as well as the mechanical properties and cytotoxicity of DLP-printed specimens. The results suggest that the DLP-printed specimens were noncytotoxic to porcine chondrocytes, showing great potential for biomedical applications.
