Copper-Catalyzed Carbonylative Coupling of Alkyl Halides

Li-Jie Cheng et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed carbonylation reactions are an effective method to introduce oxygen functionality into organic compounds. However, challenges such as the use of noble metals as catalysts and the reactivity of certain substrates remain.

Redox Activity of Pyridine-Oxazoline Ligands in the Stabilization of Low-Valent Organonickel Radical Complexes

Clifton L. Wagner et al.

Summary: Low-valent organonickel radical complexes are common intermediates in cross-coupling reactions and metalloenzyme-mediated processes. The electronic structures of N-ligand supported nickel complexes appear to vary depending on the actor ligands and the coordination number. The excellent capability of pyrox in stabilizing electron-rich Ni species resonates with its proclivity in promoting the reductive activation of C(sp(3)) electrophiles in cross-coupling reactions.

Oxidative Addition of Aryl and Alkyl Halides to a Reduced Iron Pincer Complex

Stephan M. Rummelt et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the two-electron oxidative addition of aryl and alkyl halides to a reduced iron dinitrogen complex with a strong-field tridentate pincer ligand. Results show that the relative rate of oxidative addition of aryl halides varies with the halide type, and the pathways for obtaining products differ for different substrates.

Controlled Single-Electron Transfer via Metal-Ligand Cooperativity Drives Divergent Nickel-Electrocatalyzed Radical Pathways

Anna Wuttig et al.

Summary: Electrocatalysis using Ni-ligand cooperativity can control electron transfer, selectively activating alkyl iodides via outer-sphere electron transfer, while indiscriminately activating both substrates and halogen atom donors in an inner-sphere fashion. This controlled electron transfer limits undesired radical recombination products and promotes selective radical processes in electrochemical environments.

Alkali Metal Adducts of an Iron(0) Complex and Their Synergistic FLP-Type Activation of Aliphatic C-X Bonds

Hendrik Tinnermann et al.

Summary: In this study, weak adducts between Li+ and Na+ cations and a neutral iron(0) complex were reported, which synergistically activate aliphatic C-X bonds and lead to the formation of iron(II) organyl compounds. The system showed potential for homocoupling and crosscoupling reactions. Further investigation on the activation mechanism revealed a cooperation between the alkali metal and iron(0) center.

Monovalent Nickel-Mediated Radical Formation: A Concerted Halogen-Atom Dissociation Pathway Determined by Electroanalytical Studies

Qiao Lin et al.

Summary: The recent success of nickel catalysts in stereo-convergent cross-coupling and cross-electrophile coupling reactions is due in part to the ability of monovalent nickel species to activate C(sp(3)) electrophiles and generate radical intermediates. An electroanalytical study of the commonly applied (bpy)Ni catalyst has elucidated the mechanism behind this critical step, which involves an inner-sphere electron transfer concerted with halogen-atom dissociation.

Reactivity of (bi-Oxazoline)organonickel Complexes and Revision of a Catalytic Mechanism

Luchuan Ju et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the Bi-Oxazoline (biOx) ligand lacks redox activity in nickel-catalyzed reactions, leading to a revised mechanism of (biOx)Ni catalysis. These findings fill the gap in the knowledge of organometallic reactivity and provide new insights into the reactivity of (biOx)Ni complexes.

The Application of Pulse Radiolysis to the Study of Ni(I) Intermediates in Ni-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions

Nicholas A. Till et al.

Summary: In this study, pulse radiolysis and spectroelectrochemistry were used to generate low-valent nickel intermediates relevant to Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, and investigate their reactivities towards comproportionation and oxidative addition processes. The results provide insights into the Ni(0)/Ni(II) comproportionation process and the Ni(I) oxidative addition rates with electronically differentiated aryl iodide electrophiles, which are essential steps in nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.
