This review summarizes the literature on glycosidase inhibitors without a basic nitrogen in the past 15 years, focusing on natural terpenoids and mono- and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. From diverse structures, insights into inhibitor structural features applicable to the optimization of all glycosidase inhibitors, including iminosugars, are identified.
This review covers the literature in the past 15 years on glycosidase inhibitors lacking a basic nitrogen (for example iminosugars/azasugars) with a focus on natural terpenoids, and mono-and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. From quite diverse structures, insight into inhibitor structural features that may be applicable to optimisation of all glycosidase inhibitors including iminosugars are identified.(c) 2022 Elsevier Masson SAS.
