Finite element simulation of drop-weight tear test of API X80 at ductile-brittle transition temperatures

Ji-Su Kim et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method to simultaneously simulate interacting ductile and cleavage fracture in a DWTT, using stress-modified fracture strain (SMFS) damage model for ductile fracture and maximum principal stress criterion for cleavage fracture. By incorporating the element size effect in the ductile and cleavage damage models, a numerical method is constructed to simulate the interacting ductile and cleavage fracture behavior in a DWTT. Validation with experimental data shows good agreement between the simulation results and measurements.

Predicting ductile fracture of cracked pipes using small punch test data

Jong-Min Lee et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical method for simulating ductile fracture of a cracked pipe using small punch test data, with parameters in the damage model extracted solely from small punch test data. The proposed method is validated by comparing simulation results with TP316L experimental data, showing good agreement in pipe tests and faster crack growth in compact tension tests. The effect of stress triaxiality on prediction accuracy is also discussed.

A Fracture Strain Based Numerical Prediction Method For Hydrogen Effect on Fracture Toughness☆

Gyo-Geun Youn et al.

Summary: In this paper, a finite element simulation method based on the multi-axial fracture strain model is proposed to predict the effect of hydrogen embrittlement on fracture toughness in 21-6-9 stainless steel. The method is successfully applied to test data and shows close agreement with experimental results.
