The relationship between BRCA-associated breast cancer and age factors: an analysis of the Japanese HBOC consortium database

Maiko Okano et al.

Summary: The prevalence of BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants in Japanese breast cancer patients is 11.2% and 9.0%, with early onset breast cancer associated with BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants. Younger TNBC patients are more likely to have BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants, regardless of family history of breast or ovarian cancer.

Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC): review of its molecular characteristics, screening, treatment, and prognosis

Reiko Yoshida

Summary: Breast cancer affects a large number of patients, with 5-10% being genetically predisposed. Advances in NGS technology have led to the discovery of non-BRCA genes associated with breast and ovarian cancers. Research on HBOC involves predisposition, treatment, prevention, risk diagnosis, and protective measures for relatives, emphasizing the importance of updating cancer management protocols.
