Degradation of organic compounds in hypersaline wastewater concentrate by a supercritical oxidation approach

Li-Jun Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, an environment-friendly supercritical water oxidation technology was used to efficiently remove high-content organic matter in hypersaline wastewater. Hydrogen peroxide was found to be a suitable oxidant for processing the wastewater concentrate. The optimal reaction parameters were determined to be a hydrogen peroxide dosage of 6.39%, a reaction temperature of 380 degrees Celsius, and a reaction time of approximately 90 minutes. The hydroxyl radicals produced by hydrogen peroxide initiated bond breaking and ring-opening reactions in organic matter, resulting in its degradation into water and carbon dioxide.

Abbas Elhambakhsh et al.

Summary: This study synthesized Fe2O3@glutamine nanoparticles for enhanced CO2 absorption, with results showing that Fe2O3@glutamine nanoparticles had higher stability and CO2 absorption efficiency compared to bare Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The presence of glutamine as a hydrophilic agent contributed to the improved performance of Fe2O3@glutamine nanoparticles in absorbing CO2, showing promising potential in carbon capture applications.

Kinetic and mechanism investigation on the gamma irradiation induced degradation of quizalofop-p-ethyl

Amira Zaouak et al.

Summary: Efficient gamma radiolytic decomposition of the herbicide quizalofo-p-ethyl (QPE) was explored under different experimental conditions, showing high removal efficiency. Studies on absorption spectra, pH effects, and TOC indicated that neutral pH was optimal for degradation, with nearly 98% TOC removal. By-products were identified, suggesting a degradation mechanistic schema involving hydroxyl radicals from water radiolysis.

Treatment of methyldiethanolamine wastewater using subcritical and supercritical water oxidation: parameters study, process optimization and degradation mechanism

Mohammad Noor Ghasemi et al.

Summary: In this study, sub/supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) was used to degrade methyldiethanolamine (MDEA). The impact of various operating parameters on MDEA degradation was investigated and optimized using the response surface method. The results showed that under optimal conditions, a maximum of 97.4% MDEA degradation was achieved. HPLC analysis revealed negligible amounts of formic acid and nitrous acid in the solution, indicating the effectiveness of the SCWO process.

Morteza Mehdipour et al.

Summary: The rotating liquid sheet contactor was utilized to separate CO2 content from CO2/N2 gas mixtures, achieving a separation efficiency of over 95% with DEA solution. An increase in gas flow rate and CO2 inlet concentration leads to higher absorption flux but lower separation efficiency. Improving solvent concentration enhances the CO2 removal process.

Heterogeneous yielding mechanisms of body centered cubic iron for high resistance to chemical reaction-induced deterioration in supercritical water environments: A reactive molecular dynamics study

Qian Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the atomic-scale yielding mechanisms of BCC iron in supercritical water by using reactive molecular dynamics simulations. The research demonstrates that tensile strain along the [1(1)0] direction of BCC iron may exhibit higher tensile strength and lower sensitivity to the environment compared to other directions. This finding is attributed to the homogenous generation of HCP precursors inside the iron bulk, limiting the effects of surficial chemical reactions with supercritical water on the yielding behavior.
