CTAB-modified carboxymethyl cellulose/bagasse cryogels for the efficient removal of bisphenol A, methylene blue and Cr(VI) ions: Batch and column adsorption studies

Izabo Pereira Meneses et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption of MB, Cr(VI), and BPA using modified cryogels CMCBG-CTAB, showing removal capacities of 100%, 70%, and 95% respectively. The presence of synergistic effects in binary or ternary mixtures resulted in increased adsorption of Cr(VI) ions, while the adsorption of MB was significantly reduced in the presence of Cr(VI) ions. The adsorption of BPA was not significantly affected by the presence of MB or Cr(VI). The adsorbents showed good recyclability with no significant efficiency loss after five cycles.

Adsorption of estrone, 17β-estradiol, and 17α-ethinylestradiol from water onto modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes, carbon cryogel, and carbonized hydrothermal carbon

Danijela Prokic et al.

Summary: Carbon materials with varied structural and textural properties were used as adsorbents to remove estrogen hormones from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was found to be influenced by surface mesoporosity, rather than specific surface area or surface oxygen groups. The high adsorption efficiency and capacity of mesoporous carbon cryogel and multi-walled carbon nanotubes make them effective adsorbents for rapid removal of estrogen hormones from water.

Efficient degradation of tetracycline by singlet oxygen-dominated peroxymonosulfate activation with magnetic nitrogen-doped porous carbon

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: The study thoroughly examined the degradation of tetracycline (TC) in the constructed Co-N/C-PMS system, finding that the removal rate of TC reached 85.4% when Co-N/C and PMS were added simultaneously, with a higher degradation rate compared to using Co-N/C or PMS alone. The system was identified as a singlet oxygen-dominated nonradical reaction, providing a promising approach for eliminating TC in water treatment.

Reasonable calculation of the thermodynamic parameters from adsorption equilibrium constant

Tao Chen et al.

Summary: This article highlights the ambiguity in calculating adsorption equilibrium constants and thermodynamic parameters, emphasizing the importance of using dimensionless standard equilibrium constants and the influence of standard state selection on the values of ΔG(θ), ΔH-θ, and ΔS-θ. Various methods for calculating equilibrium constants for different isotherm models are provided.

Tuning the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Cryogels with the Aid of Surfactants

Rafael S. Dezotti et al.

Summary: The microstructure of HPMC cryogels was modified by the addition of ionic (AOT) and non-ionic (Kolliphor(R) EL) surfactants. Cryogels containing AOT had lower compressive modulus, higher specific surface area, lower thermal conductivity, and less hygroscopic walls, while cryogels with Kolliphor(R) EL were the stiffest with the lowest specific surface area and highest thermal conductivity. Density functional theory calculations showed different interaction energies between AOT and HPMC, and HPMC and Kolliphor(R) EL, which influenced the mechanical and thermal properties of the cryogels.
