Prediction of Oxidant Exposures and Micropollutant Abatement during Ozonation Using a Machine Learning Method

Dongwon Cha et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates machine learning models based on the random forest algorithm for predicting the abatement of micropollutants during ozonation processes. The models use input variables such as pH, alkalinity, dissolved organic carbon concentration, and FEEM data, with high-resolution FEEM data showing higher prediction accuracy. Utilizing organic matter characteristics quantified by FEEM can improve the accuracy of the model in predicting oxidant exposures.

Single Metal Atom Catalyst Supported on g-C3N4 for Formic Acid Dehydrogenation: A Combining Density Functional Theory and Machine Learning Study

Xiaomei Zhao et al.

Summary: The study systematically explored the catalytic performance of single atom catalysts embedded on g-C3N4 for formic acid dehydrogenation, using density functional theory (DFT) method and machine learning (ML). It was found that Rh-, Pd-, and Pt@g-C3N4 exhibited good performance in both thermodynamics and kinetics for formic acid dehydrogenation, and the adsorption strength of formic acid on M@g-C3N4 is largely determines the reaction energy of the rate determination step (RDS) of the formic acid dehydrogenation, showing a nearly linear correlation relationship. Furthermore, machine leaning indicated that the adsorption strength of formic acid on M@g-C3N4 is determined by the combination of the electronegativity of metal atoms and the d-band center of metal atom.

Performance prediction of ZVI-based anaerobic digestion reactor using machine learning algorithms

Weichao Xu et al.

Summary: The study evaluates three machine learning algorithms for predicting the performance of ZVI-based AD reactors and finds XGBoost to have the highest accuracy. Parameters like total solid of feedstock, sCOD, ZVI dosage, and particle size were identified as dominant factors affecting methane production. Deep learning outperformed XGBoost and random forest with the lowest root mean squared errors for predicting cumulative methane production.

Preferential Growth of the Cobalt (200) Facet in Co@N-C for Enhanced Performance in a Fenton-like Reaction

Lipeng Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Co@N-C materials were synthesized using nitrates as templates to control the preferential growth of the cobalt (200) facet, exhibiting excellent activity for Fenton-like degradation of bisphenol A. The Co(200) facet was found to be the most active for PMS activation, with nitrates promoting its preferential growth. These materials showed higher stability and faster transformation rates, while singlet oxygen was found to play a dominant role in the degradation process. Density functional theory confirmed that Co nanoparticles coated with graphitic nitrogen-doped carbon had the best activity for PMS activation.
