Red LED light promotes biomass, flowering and secondary metabolites accumulation in hydroponically grown Hypericum perforatum L. (cv. Topas)

Masumeh Karimi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that increasing the red light fraction in LED light had a positive effect on the growth, flowering, and secondary metabolite accumulation in Hypericum perforatum plants, while higher levels of blue light showed poorer growth and flowering traits. Additionally, antioxidant enzymes activities, total phenolic and flavonoid content were higher in plants exposed to a mixture of red and blue light compared to those grown under white LED light.

Decoupling of Plant Growth and Accumulation of Biologically Active Compounds in Leaves, Roots, and Root Exudates of Hypericum perforatum L. by the Combination of Jasmonate and Far-Red Lighting

Martina Paponov et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of the plant hormone jasmonic acid and far-red light signaling on plant growth and secondary metabolite accumulation, revealing that they mainly act independently without observable interactions. The combined application of jasmonic acid and far-red light enhanced the accumulation of most secondary compounds without compromising plant growth.
