Heat shock protein and aquaporin expression enhance water conserving behavior of citrus under water deficits and high temperature conditions

Waqar Shafqat et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the responses of ten genetically diverse citrus selections against water deficit, heat, and their combinations. Brazilian sour orange and Keen sour orange performed well in avoiding desiccation and maintaining photosynthesis, while Savage citrange proved the most sensitive to all stress conditions. Differences in tolerance to heat and water deficit among these varieties were associated with the upregulation of heat shock proteins and major intrinsic proteins.

Summary: This study conducted a genome-wide characterization of AQPs in bottle gourd, identifying several tissue-specific AQPs and analyzing the transport and localization of silicon and other metalloids in plants. The findings provide insights into the role of AQPs in physiological processes and the understanding of solute transport mechanisms in plants.
