Biological notes on immature stages of Hydaticus pacificus conspersus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae)

Summary: This study provides the first detailed description of the developmental period of the endangered species Hydaticus pacificus conspersus Regimbart during laboratory rearing, and finds that it has the ability to lay eggs on driftwood in addition to aquatic plants. The observed results show that this species has one of the shortest larval developmental periods among Dytiscidae species, and this adaptation may contribute to increased reproductive success in unstable environments.
