The extraction mechanism research for the separation of indole through the formation of deep eutectic solvents with quaternary ammonium salts

Tiantian Jiao et al.

Summary: This study explored the extraction ability of different quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) on indole, and found that tetraethylammonium chloride (TEAC) can form deep eutectic solvents with indole. Quantum calculation was used to analyze the interaction forces between indole and QASs, and the conclusions were consistent with the experimental results. The mechanism research in this article provides important reference for the selection of applicable extractant and the prediction of separation efficiency.

Location-dependent effect of nickel on hydrogen dissociation and diffusion on Mg (0001) surface: Insights into hydrogen storage material design

Zongying Han et al.

Summary: This study performed Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to investigate the hydrogen dissociation and diffusion on the Mg (0001) surface with Ni incorporation at different locations. The results revealed that the Ni atom prefers to locate inside the Mg matrix rather than on or over the topmost surface. Further calculations showed that the Ni atom located on or over the topmost Mg (0001) surface exhibits an excellent catalytic effect on hydrogen dissociation with a low energy barrier. However, Ni doping inside the Mg bulk not only has little effect on hydrogen dissociation but also hinders hydrogen diffusion. Therefore, stabilizing the Ni atom on the surface or in the topmost layer of the Mg (0001) surface is crucial to maintain its catalytic effect. For all the cases of Ni-incorporated Mg (0001) surfaces, the hydrogen atom prefers to migrate along the surface before penetrating into the bulk. It is expected that the theoretical findings in this study can provide fundamental guidance for the future design of efficient Mg-based hydrogen storage materials.

Study of Gold Leaching Behavior in the Chlorination Process from Waste Printed Circuit Boards

Jianbo Wang et al.

Summary: The study showed that under different concentrations of NaCIO3, NaCl, and H2SO4, the leaching behavior of gold is affected, but the concentrations of NaCl and H2SO4 have no significant impact on the complex species of gold, and the dissolution and passivation of gold proceed with increasing solution potential. O-2 is inevitably produced in the reaction, leading to the passivation of gold, with the passivation product identified as Au(OH)3.

Innovative pre-concentration technology for recovering ultrafine ilmenite using superconducting high gradient magnetic separator

Zhitao Yuan et al.

Summary: This study proposed the superconducting high-gradient magnetic separation (SMS) technology for the utilization of abandoned ultrafine ilmenite in the titanium magnetite processing plant in Panzhihua. By optimizing the conditions, a high TiO2 grade and recovery rate were achieved, indicating that a combination of high magnetic field and strong pulsating is critical for effective pre-concentration of ultrafine ilmenite in the SMS process. The results also highlighted that high magnetic intensity and gradient are key factors in the success of SMS technology.
