Costs and potentials of reducing CO2 emissions in China's transport sector: Findings from an energy system analysis

Huibin Du et al.

Summary: This paper develops a marginal abatement cost curve for China's transport sector to identify the potentials and cost advantages of emissions reduction, highlighting the significant roles of intercity passenger transport and freight sector. The impacts of a carbon peaking policy and driver preferences for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are also discussed, along with the importance of a higher ratio of electricity use by PHEVs drivers in reducing CO2 emissions. The sensitivity analysis of various factors provides valuable insights for future low-carbon energy development strategies in China's transport sector.

What factors affect the public acceptance of new energy vehicles in underdeveloped regions? A case study of Gansu Province, China

Rong Wang et al.

Summary: New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) have great potential in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and decreasing reliance on petroleum products. This study, based on survey data from Gansu Province, analyzes public perception and acceptance of NEVs in underdeveloped regions, finding that public acceptance is relatively high but varies among different groups. Key factors affecting acceptance include perceived risk, perceived cost, subjective norm, and quality of NEVs. The study also suggests strategies to improve public acceptance of NEVs in underdeveloped regions.

Urban air pollution control policies and strategies: a systematic review

Ahmad Jonidi Jafari et al.

Summary: This systematic review comprehensively evaluates air pollution control policies and strategies implemented worldwide, categorizing them into policies enacted by different countries and those targeting specific pollutants. The most common strategies focus on the transportation sector, while changes in energy sources, such as reducing reliance on solid fuels, are reported as effective actions to reduce air pollution. In addition to international agreements, the use of renewable energy, clean fuels, and low-pollution vehicles are crucial for reducing air pollution.

Mitigation potential of black carbon emissions from on-road vehicles in China

Shaojun Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the black carbon (BC) emissions from on-road transportation in China and establishes an updated inventory. The research shows that comprehensive control policies in the past have significantly reduced BC emissions, and there is still great potential for further reduction in the future through stringent control policies and advanced technologies. Various scenarios suggest substantial BC emission reductions can be achieved in the future.

Research on the influence of manufacturing agglomeration modes on regional carbon emission and spatial effect in China

Fei Lan et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the impact and spatial effects of manufacturing agglomeration modes on regional carbon emissions. It finds that specialized agglomeration of manufacturing industry increases local carbon emissions, while diversified agglomeration has negative spillover effects on neighboring regions. Additionally, increasing affluence and government intervention are found to increase local carbon emissions, while trade openness decreases local carbon emissions. Population has a negative spillover effect. Recommendations for local government planners are also provided.
