Mechanism of CaO and Fe2O3 capture gaseous arsenic species in the flue gas: DFT combined thermodynamic study

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, the stable forms of arsenic were determined using density functional theory (DFT) and thermodynamic system equilibrium calculation. The capture mechanism of arsenic species by CaO and Fe2O3 was investigated using DFT. The findings provide important insights into the control and prevention of arsenic pollution.

Flue gas-to-ash desulfurization of combustion of textile dyeing sludge: Its dependency on temperature, lignocellulosic residue, and CaO

Jianli Huang et al.

Summary: In the combustion of textile dyeing sludge, controlling sulfur (S) species through flue gas-to-ash processes is crucial for achieving circular economies. The experimental study found that temperature and blend ratios play significant roles in transforming S in TDS, with the addition of spent mushroom substrate (SMS) and calcium oxide (CaO) enhancing desulfurization efficiency. The results suggest that a combination of SMS and CaO can improve the retention of S and enhance the decomposition of calcium sulfate (CaSO4).

Fate of chromium with the presence of HCl and steam during oxy-coal combustion: Quantum chemistry and experimental study

Xiaoyu Li et al.

Summary: Combining quantum chemistry, kinetic simulations, and DTF experiments, the research revealed the transformation behavior of chromium under oxy-coal combustion in the presence of steam and HCl. It was found that HCl promoted the oxidation of chromium to hexavalent CrO2Cl2, while the coexistence of HCl and steam divided the transition of chromium into two stages, ultimately leading to the formation of CrO2Cl2 as the predominant species. The introduction of HCl into the combustion atmosphere induced more chromium release, and the presence of steam reinforced the effect of HCl on chromium transformation.

Transformation of phosphorous during incineration of sewage sludge: Influence of steam and mineral

Yi Xiao et al.

Summary: Research on the migration and transformation of phosphorous during sewage sludge incineration showed that increasing temperature improved phosphorous recovery in ash. The retention of phosphorous was mainly determined by calcium species in the sludge. Introducing 2% steam into the combustion atmosphere aided in minerals capturing gaseous phosphorous.

Transformation of Phosphorus during Low-Temperature Co-Combustion of Sewage Sludge with Biowastes

Xiangdong Meng et al.

Summary: This study systematically characterized P transformation during low-temperature co-combustion of sewage sludge with biowaste by combining X-ray absorption spectroscopy, sequential extraction, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analyses. The introduction of biowaste altered the enrichment efficiency and availability of P in the ash, providing insights into the effects of combustion conditions and feedstock characteristics on P speciation.
