Preparation of poly(N-vinyl caprolactam) with various end groups using chain transfer agents and evaluation of their effects on kinetic hydrate inhibition

Jaeyeong Choi et al.

Summary: Poly(N-vinylamide) derivatives, specifically PNVF and PVCap, were synthesized and evaluated as kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHIs). Results showed that some of the synthesized polymers exhibited better KHI properties than PVCap.

In situ PXRD analysis on the kinetic effect of PVP-K90 and PVCap on methane hydrate dissociation below ice point

Xuebing Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of KHIs significantly reduced the self-preservation effect of CH4 hydrates and increased the dissociation rate of hydrates. PVP-K90 and PVCap had different mechanisms of action, with the former embedded in small ice crystals inhibiting the connections of plate-like ice crystals, and the latter inducing dendritic growth of CH4 hydrates, leading to an increase in specific surface area.

Inhibition effects of poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)/poly(ε-caprolactone) amphiphilic block copolymers on methane hydrate formation

Li Wan et al.

Summary: Amphiphilic block copolymers (PVCap-b-PCL) containing different ratio of PCL and PVCap were synthesized and showed better performance than PVCap in methane hydrate inhibition experiments, providing longer induction time. These copolymers have potential as environmentally friendly hydrate inhibitors by adjusting the ratio of PCL to PVCap.

Synthesis and Phase Behavior of Methane Hydrate in a Layered Double Hydroxide: An Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

Sanya Du et al.

Summary: Nanoconfinement and a high surface charge density strongly inhibit the phase behavior of methane hydrates formed in LDH. The confined clathrate hydrate had lower stability and significantly lower methane occupancy in its large cages. These results provide important information for potential applications of nanoconfined methane hydrates and the exploitation of gas hydrates in sediments.

Experiment and model investigation of D-sorbitol as a thermodynamic hydrate inhibitor for methane and carbon dioxide hydrates

Zhen Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the thermodynamic inhibition effect of D-sorbitol on methane and carbon dioxide hydrates, finding that D-sorbitol has a significant inhibitory impact on hydrate formation without participating in the crystal structure. The results suggest that D-sorbitol can be utilized in flow assurance strategies for preventing hydrate blockages.
