Does China's carbon emissions trading scheme affect the market power of high-carbon enterprises?

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study uses the difference-in-differences method and mediating effect model to examine the impact of China's ETS on the market power of high-carbon enterprises. The results indicate that the implementation of China's ETS has led to a decline in the market power of these enterprises, mainly through reducing the level of horizontal integration. The policy has a significant negative impact on enterprises in the petrochemical and chemical industries, as well as state-owned enterprises with high financing constraints and large-scale operations.

Summary: Properly addressing the environmental issue requires suitable treatment for energy use and capital investment. This study measures the environmentally-adjusted technical inefficiency of 30 province-level regions in China using the BAM model. The main sources of inefficiency in China are different pollutants emissions from different perspectives (natural disposability and managerial disposability).

Has carbon emissions trading system promoted non-fossil energy development in China?

Jing-Yue Liu et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of China's Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) on non-fossil energy development using a difference-in-differences model. The results show that the ETS has significantly promoted the development of non-fossil energy in China, with a greater impact observed with higher carbon prices.

Using system dynamics to analyse key factors influencing China's energy-related CO2 emissions and emission reduction scenarios

Honghua Yang et al.

Summary: A research using system dynamics method established a multi-level model to analyze China's energy-related CO2 emissions, showing GDP, energy structure, and industrial structure have significant impacts on emissions. Various emission reduction measures were proposed to achieve the goal of peaking carbon emissions before 2030.

Will the urbanization process influence the peak of carbon emissions in the building sector? A dynamic scenario simulation

Tengfei Huo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of urbanization on China's carbon emissions from buildings through a comprehensive framework and dynamic simulation model. It predicts the peak emissions and trajectories of different building sectors, and finds that rural-urban migration plays a significant role in influencing the peaking time and emission peaks. This research provides valuable insights for the government in formulating effective strategies to achieve carbon peaking and neutrality goals.

Revisiting the determinants of carbon emissions for Turkey: the role of construction sector

Ahmet Eren Yildirim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship among carbon dioxide emissions, real GDP, energy usage, trade, financial development, and construction sector activities in Turkey within the Environmental Kuznets Curve framework. The findings suggest that an increase in construction sector activities has a positive impact on CO2 emissions, while real GDP and energy usage increases lead to a statistically significant rise in carbon emissions. Trade openness contributes positively to carbon emissions, but financial development does not explain environmental pollution in the long term.
