A Study on the Effect of Inlet Air Pollution on the Engine Component Wear and Operation

Tadeusz Dziubak et al.

Summary: This paper systematically reviews the research progress of the influence of air pollutants in the engine inlet on the accelerated wear of various engine components. It discusses the primary component of air pollution, road dust, and its effect on the abrasive wear of elements such as piston, piston rings, cylinder liner, and plain bearing. The study emphasizes the importance of dust parameters, such as grain size, hardness, and concentration, in determining the accelerated wear. Additionally, it explores the effects of wear on compression pressure, engine power, exhaust gas blow-by, oil consumption, and exhaust gas toxicity. The paper also addresses the impact of air contaminants on the performance of the air flow meter, a crucial sensor in modern engines.

Analysis of Torque Waveforms in Two-Cylinder Engines for Ultralight Aircraft Propulsion Operating on 0W-8 and 0W-16 Oils at High Thermal Loads Using the Diamond-Like Carbon Composite Coating

Piotr Wroblewski

Summary: This article focuses on the special operating conditions and the use of low dynamic viscosity oils in piston internal combustion engines used in ultralight aircraft. The high engine oil temperature, up to 140 degrees C, poses challenges in determining the changes in engine resistance to motion. Experimental tests were conducted to measure the resistance torque of aircraft internal combustion engines operating with low-viscosity oils, filling a scientific gap in this area.

An analysis on energy demands in airborne particulate matter filtration using hollow-fiber membranes

Pavel Bulejko

Summary: This study analyzed the energy requirements for drawing air through a hollow-fiber membrane (HFM) during air filtration, comparing different parameters of HFMs in terms of air flowrate and dust loading rate. The results showed that smaller diameter HFMs had significantly higher energy consumption to operate the blower, and the energy consumption trend during dust loading depended on the inner fiber diameter.
